Meeting with Kerala Maritime Board Chairman Mr. Mathew
Adv. V.J. Mathew, Chairman, Kerala Maritime Board, Chief Operating Officer Capt. K.R. Vinod, Coastal Shipping Manager Mr. Moosa Anas K.P., and Master Mariner Capt. K. K. Haridas had a discussion with Malabar Chamber Executive Committee members. The land vacant at the Calicut Beach, belonging to Beypore Port Office can be leased to some reliable party if offers comes along. Malabar Chamber has already made a proposal to the Hon’ble Minister of Ports when he came to Calicut. Which we intend to develop into a fleece market and sea food market or any other movable variety. Capt. Haridas said that there was land opposite to Merchant Navy Club which has been dumped by waste hitherto. He said that all the waste has been removed and is kept clean now. This land can also be used for various purposes. A business plan will be prepared by Mr. TPM Sajal, which could be used to develop the land, if allotted to our Chamber. Many timber merchants of Calicut are importing timber at Tuticorin port and is being carried through road to Calicut for sale. This is a laborious process and expensive. If Beypore Port could be used for this import, it would be very easy and profitable to the traders. Radhakrishna Timbers is doing so.
Captain Haridas had attended the meeting on the Blue Economy at Cochin. He agreed to give a report on this program within two days.
