History

The Malabar Chamber of Commerce, established in 1929 is in its 9th decade of meaningful existence. It was set on track by stalwarts like A.K.T.K.M. Guptan Nambudiripad and Sait Nagjee Amarsi and was nourished by presidents like P.P. Hassan Koya, Liladhar N. Mehta, Haji Koyappathodi M. Ahammed Kutty, U.K. Sankunni and M. A. Unneerikutty.

The Chamber plays a pivotal role in the development of trade and industry in Malabar, since its inception. Over the years, Chamber have been working for the development of this region. Realising the fact that only sound infrastructure could lead to integral development of the region, Chamber presented a number of suggestions and recommendations to the government time to time. Calicut International Airport, Indian Institute of Management, Konkan Railway, Express Highway, Inland Waterways were only a few among them.

Malabar had a glorious past and it still continues to forge ahead in the realm of trade and commerce with its conducive business climate, natural resources, proactive governance and entrepreneurial spirit.

Strategically located, with proximity to all major destinations across South India, Malabar is well connected through air, road and rail. With its world class healthcare, education, tourism, infrastructure and IT facilities, Malabar holds endless possibilities. The city of Calicut, acclaimed as the ’city of truth’, has been ranked as the second best city in India to reside in.

The region is home to a number of premier educational institutions like IIMK and NITC. A number of private sector world class educational institutions have also established up in the region, make Malabar the knowledge hub of Kerala.

Malabar is fast emerging as the most attractive tourist destination, rather unexplored. Wynad has gained an important position in the global eco-tourism scene.

Numerous IT projects are coming up here like the Advanced Cyber Park at Ramanattukara, UL Cyber Park, the first green IT Park in India, Satellite City at Mavoor, Industrial Park at Kinaloor and Footwear Park at Edavanna will redefine the industrial domain of Malabar.

Forums like the Calicut IT Initiative and the likes are changing the face of Malabar with the coordination of major infrastructure changes. Needless to say, Malabar opens endless possibilities of growth.
