The erstwhile Malabar District comprises of the present Palghat, Malappuram, Kozhikode,Wayanad,Cannanore and Kasargod Districts.Calicut was the head quarter of Malabar.We are traditionally traders and exporters,the native business men felt the importance and the pressing need for their own association and the Malabar Chamber of Commerce was formed in the year 1929.Subsequently in 1931 it was incorporated under the Indian Companies Act 1913. It is gratifying to note that the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry which comprised of mainly industries of Calicut was amalgamated with the Malabar Chamber of Commerce in the year 1985. |

| Pattern of Membership | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Individuals,
Firms, Joint families, Joint Stock Companies, Corporations, Chambers
of Commerce and Trade Associations protecting or promoting or engaged
in or interested in Trade, Industry, Commerce, Banking, Insurance, Transport
, Mining, Manufacturing and other business or profession shall be eligible
to be members of the Chamber. |

| The statutory
and conventional functions of a Chamber of Commerce incorporated under
the Companies Act 1956 are:
3. Issue of certificates of origin of various commodities to the exporters. 4. Assisting in the arbitration proceeding of disputes
in areas of marine 5. Perform the watchdog functions against Marine fraud and fraudulant practices. 6. Negotiate with authorities on behalf of Chamber members

The Central
and State Governments generally call for considered opinions and suggestions
of the Chamber on every draft bill, affecting the Trade and Industry
and also invite pre-budget and post budget proposals and views.The Chamber
has also been arranging discussions with interested members on various
subjects connected, with Tax Matters, Export-import, Banking, Railways,
Airports, Telephones, Electricity, Traffiic, Port etc. making representations
to the concerned authorities. |

Air- conditioned P.V.Sami Memorial Hall which can accomodate 250 people and air conditioned Grasim Hall which can accomodate 50 people at moderate rent. 2. | Social obligation of the Chamber | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
For channelising
its social welfare activities in a more effective and organized manner,
Chamber has formed a separate Society under the name and style, Malabar
Chamber Relief Committee. The most outstanding contributions are the
Comfort Stations built at Calicut Medical College to commemorate its
Golden Jubilee in 1979 and the one constructed at the premises of Women
& Children Hospital, Calicut to perpetuate its Diamond Jubilee in
1989 |
